Focus Not on What’s Going Wrong, but What’s Going Right

My challenge to you: After you read this, focus not on what’s going wrong, but what’s going right. Gratitude is the best attitude!

This morning, I poured a hot cup of coffee and as I got settled on the couch, I grabbed my Oprah magazine for some light, inspirational reading. As I read something that brought a smile to my face, I turned my head to look out the window at the colorful fall trees…only to see SNOW flurries! I live in Pittsburgh, PA and I know that a lot of us were kind of bummed about our rainy summer, so we were excited for hoodie and campfire season. The thought of skipping the hoodies and moving straight to winter coats makes us cringe! At that moment of seeing snow flurries, I felt all of these negative emotions beginning to take over. All of a sudden, I looked back in front of me and on the other end of the couch was my “Thankful” pillow that I put out each fall. Just beyond that pillow was a beautifully lit candle that was filling the room with a warm, coconut aroma. In the background, I heard our heater kick on.

Really, Jen? There is SO much to be thankful for and I was about to “stomp my feet” over a few snow flurries. At that moment, I silently acknowledged the things for which I am thankful including my cozy couch, a roof over my head to keep me warm and safe, and the luxurious things we often take for granted like scented candles and decorative pillows. Life is pretty darn good.

What are you thankful for?
