Where Your Attention Goes, There Your Energy Flows

where you're attention goesI had a nice lunch today with friends and eventually, we got to talking about how one’s mood is affected by what’s going on in his/her life.  My friend said, “Where your attention goes, there your energy flows.”  I’ve never heard that quote before, but let me tell you, I will never forget it!  Those words really resonated with me.

It’s so true and it reminds me of the old anger management tool, “When you’re mad, count to 10,” because even within that 10 seconds, your mind has time to refocus your attention and is no longer magnifying the “problem.”

A good friend of mine posted a status on Facebook today asking for others to comment with ways they get out of a funk and it was so cool to read the ways people stay motivated and kick their butts into gear!  I commented, sharing that when I’m in a funk, I like to YouTube Ellen DeGeneres videos and before I know it, I’m laughing and thinking of ways to give back to others – and, BOOM, my energy and focus have shifted.

So, next time you’re experiencing an unwanted emotion or stuck in a certain circumstance, remember that, “Where your attention goes, there your energy flows.”  Really try and understand the meaning of that and how powerful it can be when you apply it!
